The Thing in Maribor

The Thing did their THING and it was amazing. The readers who think that The Thing is a John Carpenter's horror movie think again. The Thing is a SWE/NOR jazz trio with Mats Gustafsson on saxophones, Ingebrigt Haaker Flaten on double bass and bass and Paal Nilssen-Love on drums. The place was packed as The Thing aren't new to Maribor. This time it was their third gig there and people haven't forgotten them. Mats introduced them by saying that one of them has drunk an energy drink just before the gig and that the audience can guess who it was during the show. I could have bet that all three of them drank at least a couple of energy potions. It was a concert with so much enthusiasm, determination and hard work put in it that the audience wasn't left untouched. It was just pure energy all over and with that it was easier to understand that it lasted "only" less than hour and a half. Mats even performed a couple of compositions on his bass sax. It was a rollercoaster ride of free jazz worth taking. And here are some of my impressions seen from my Fujifilm X-Pro2:
